Every PC or Console player has likely heard of Overwatch by now, maybe even played it. If you didn’t, then maybe you need to come out of your cave and join millions of players who are immersed in this excellent game. To say that Overwatch changed the landscape of FPS online gaming would be an understatement, as it is pretty evident if you follow the latest updates from the world of gaming. This article will focus on Genji and the best Genji Skins, but more on that later.
Usually, most games need a huge amount of promotions and user reviews for a game to click in the market. While Overwatch did generate buzz due to promotions, its success was almost a sure shot. There are a couple of reasons for that, the main reason being the studios that developed this game. If you are still in the dark about the creators of this game, then let me tell you that it is Blizzard Studios.
Blizzard Entertainment is a video game company which is quite famous for their games, and also partially responsible for creating a new genre of games called MOBA. MOBA was created as a sub-genre from the Warcraft 3 game, this game that derived from Warcraft 3 is called DOTA(which is also quite popular). DOTA was created as a community mod for a Warcraft 3 map, which then garnered massive players.

Why Do People Love Overwatch?
The real question should be, ‘why don’t you like Overwatch?’. Any game that has ever been released and gained popularity, doesn’t do it because of just a single reason. Many factors make a game great. In the case of Overwatch, the story isn’t any different.
If I were to state the obvious reason, then it would be the studios behind the game. Blizzard Entertainment did a solid job with their previous games like Warcraft, Starcraft, Hearthstone, Diablo series et Cetra. If you have ever played any of those, then you know what I’m talking about, so many gamers were certain that this game would be an epic addition from the studios.
The gameplay, characters, and game modes shown in the trailers and other promotional content only piqued the interest of everyone. Also, the fact that this game kinda is a combination of MOBA and FPS shooter made a strong case for it.
So naturally, when the game was released, many players bought, pre-ordered, and played the game. The result was that the players were not disappointed, they loved the game so much. It was everything that they were hoping it to be and more.
The Katana-wielding cyborg that hacks and slashes your opponents with ease may look like an emotional machine, but that’s far from the truth. Genji Shimada, whose in-game name is Genji, used to be a human. After a near-death battle with his brother Hanzo, Genji was presumed dead by everyone but was luckily revived by using enhanced cybernetics.
Dr.Ziegler from Overwatch was the one who operated on Genji and saved his life in exchange for his cooperation to take down his brother Hanzo, and his criminal empire. The rivalry between Genji and Hanzo started when their father passed away, leaving his criminal empire in the hands of his eldest son, Hanzo.
Genji was never interested in his father’s family business and always stayed away from it. He was a carefree person who just enjoyed life by using his father’s wealth. This never sat well with his father’s associates in his criminal empire. So when Genji’s father died, his associates forced Hanzo to pressure Genji into the family business. One thing led to another, and soon both brothers were at the end of swords.
Genji was reanimated as a half-man and half-machine, Genji struggled with his identity between a human and a machine. He joined Blacklist, a task force of Overwatch that was a ghost team. He operated there for some years and left the team to find inner peace, which eventually led him to accept who he was.
Every hero in Overwatch has 4 different abilities based on their class, and these abilities are unique to every hero. For hero Genji those abilities are
- Shuriken blades: These are a trademark attack for any ninja, and without them, the warrior isn’t even worthy of the ninja title.
- Deflect: Whenever an enemy attacks Genji, he can deflect those attacks back at him.
- Swift Strike: Another common attack of a ninja. With this attack, Genji rushes and slashes any enemy with his Katana.
- Dragon Blade: With this attack, Genji charges his Katana and deals deadly blows to anyone in his path before sheathing back the Katana.
Playing a hero with a good backstory and amazing abilities is good, but that can satisfy players only for so long. That’s why developers have introduced several skins for every character. So let’s find out some of the best Genji Skins.
Overwatch Genji Skins
Now there are many skins for the hero Genji, most of which are divided into 3 categories that are rare, epic, and legendary. If you want to truly stand out from the rest of the players and look unique then you should try to get the legendary skins as they are pretty rare and difficult to obtain.
Rare Genji Skins
Don’t get fooled by the rare title for these skins, as they are easily found through loot boxes with just 75 credits, which is pretty cheap. There are a total of 4 rare skins available for Genji, and all these skins have the same design for the character, which is the classic design. The changes that you see are for the armor and weapons color.
Instead of that usual white armor, you have 4 different colors for each rare Genji skin. Those skins are Azurite which is a teal color, Cinnabar skin that is like the name states have cinnamon color. The other two skins are Malachite and Ochre that are green and yellow respectively.
While there isn’t much creativity involved in these skins, they still provide a fresh look for the hero. The plus point is that you can get these skins pretty easily and get them all for a cheaper price. So if you get bored with one color, then you can switch to another one.
Epic Genji Skins
The Epic Genji skins cost 250 credits. Slightly better than the rare ones, the Epic Genji skins also vary with only colors. You can notice that there aren’t many changes to the actual hero’s design apart from the color combinations.
From the looks of it, you can say that this suit will fit pretty well for the stealth category. The dark blue and black color combination provides a pretty opportunity for players to use a stealth approach during the battles. It would be a good choice to use this skin in maps with nighttime settings, as it can help get blended in the shadows. You can also notice that the color changes are applied to the blade and shuriken as well.
Chrome Genji Skin
Now, this skin plays a switcheroo with the classic Overwatch Genji skins colors by inverting the white and gray combinations on the armor. Though the skin looks more shining, it isn’t far from epic skin. It feels like the developers were lazy to add a new skin, and released the classic skin with switched colors. A little more innovation would have been appreciated.
Nihon Overwatch Genji Skin
This skin was available from the Summer Games event and can also be bought with 250 credits. Again, there isn’t much going on in terms of the design aspect, as the skins merely add red color to the part where you can observe bolts on the armor. Other than that, the whole armor is now white, and these changes extend to blade and shuriken as well. The white and red color on Katana and shuriken looks gorgeous.
These 3 are the epic Genji skins that you can use in various battles.
Legendary Genji Skins
Now, these Overwatch Genji skins are some rare ones for the hero. Some of these can be bought from loot boxes, while a few of them can only be obtained for specific events in the game. Owning some of these skins is a rare feat for many players, so let’s find out what legendary skins are available for our hero.
Sparrow is the alias of the hero Genji, this was the nickname given to him by his late father when he was young. At a young age, Genji wasn’t the person he is now, as he was a pretty laid-back and erratic person. He wasn’t very happy with this nickname, but he eventually adopted that nickname as his alias.
This skin provides a new look for our hero, which shows him in his young age before he became the ninja cyborg that he is now. Since the skin shows him as a normal human, you can notice that there is no armor, but rather he is dressed up in a classic ninja costume. The colors used here are also pretty good with green, black, and gray combinations. Since it is a legendary skin, it costs way more than the rare or epic skins with 1000 credits.
This is the real look of Genji before his fateful encounter with his brother, and before he was a normal human. Sparrow skins adopt this skin’s pattern and rework it with new colors to provide a new look. Young Genji skin is also pretty similar to Ryu’s costume from Tekken, especially you can notice the similarities with the robe. Young Genji skin also has a little different design for his Katana, which is evident if you check the Tsuka(handle of a Katana) that is a little larger compared to other designs. Also, the shuriken has more of a classic design with this skin.
A skin that depicts Genji’s time when he left the Blackwatch in search of his humanity. He traveled across various places to find peace with himself, and to accept who he is now. This design encompasses that period of Genji’s life.
It provides a pretty refreshing look for our hero by using different colors and robe design that looks like it takes inspiration from middle eastern clothing. Instead of the usual helmet, you can notice a scarf around his head that entirely covers his face, as if he has traveled through a desert with a Sandstorm. You can buy this skin from the loot boxes with 1000 credits.
While the name sounds weird, this skin is a rework of the nomad skin. Both nomad & bedouin Genji Skins are similar to each other. The designs and vibes are the same with this skin, the main change between the nomad and bedouin is with the colors. While the nomad has a white robe and gold lining, this one has a blue scarf and gray robe. Another thing new with this skin is the sword design, here the Katana is replaced with a middle eastern style sword. The same is done for the nomad skin. With 1000 credits you can add this to your collection of skins.
Oni Genji Skin
A Genji skin that comes with an Oni mask. In Japanese culture, the Oni mask symbolizes protection from evil spirits. You might have these kinds of masks in many movies and shows. These Oni masks were worn by the Yakuza in the past.
While these masks may seem a little scary at a sudden glance, at the same time they also look pretty badass. Like other legendary skins mentioned so far, this one too doesn’t have armor for our hero, but rather a robe with red linings at a few places. The rest of the robe has dark blue and gray shades. The Katana also has a new look, and the shuriken design looks like an alien weapon.
Baihu Legendary Skin
This skin is similar to the ancient Chinese and Japanese armors worn by army generals during the war. The armor is a little bulky and covers the whole metallic body. Other than that, the robe under the armor is blue. Similarly, the blue shade is also applied to the edges of the sword and shuriken. The design for the sword has also been changed in this skin, as it looks more heavy and large.
Unlike the rare and epic skins, this is a rare one to obtain, as it was available during the Lunar New Year event. If you missed it, then there is a chance that you can get it during the next lunar year event.
Blackwatch/Uprising Genji Skin
Right after Genji was brought in by Dr.Zeigler to Overwatch, he was kept alive with help of cybernetic body parts that left Genji half human and half machine. Later when he joined the Blackwatch this was how he looked until further upgrades were added to his body.
There is another character from a game called Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance who looks pretty much like Blackwatch Genji or also called the Genji uprising skin. Apart from his left arm, the rest of his body is covered with armor. In a way, this skin is pretty cool and a little different from the rest in this list. Since it was available during the Archive event, it is considered a rare skin for Genji.
Kendoka Overwatch Genji Skin
Well, the skin name pretty much gives it away. For people who don’t know what Kendoka is, it is a form of martial arts in Japan where two opponents fence using bamboo swords. If you have ever seen any Japanese movies or anime then you might have probably seen this where two people are covered in a wooden armor and helmet fence with wooden Katanas. This skin partially uses that armor for the upper body, while the lower body has the hero wearing shorts and shoes. This skin was available during the summer games’ event.
Sentai Genji Skin
Anyone can tell that this skin takes its inspiration from the famous show power ranger, especially the color indicates green ranger. It is fun to play Overwatch with power rangers skin, and at the same time feels a little nostalgic. The skin design also extends to the Katana and shuriken.
It is also a rare skin for the hero, as it was rel; eased during the Anniversary event. Skins like these are pretty rare to get if you miss unlocking them during an event, but if you are lucky then you may find the chance to unlock it during the next Anniversary event.
Pacific All-Star Skin
This is a super rare skin for our hero Genji as it was only available during the Pacific all Star event(OWL) in August 2018. You probably won’t be able to find it again, but if you have it, then most of your friends are probably jealous. With this skin, Genji has a completely new look and feel, as the skin looks to give a demonic vibe for the character.
Parts excluding the armor look like the skin is on lava, and also Genji has a scary stare with the mask. You can notice some similarities if you compare these skins, ask with the Oni skin. The design looks a little similar but less scary than the one mask.
Well, these are the best Genji skins that are available for our hero, if you are looking for more, then you can check this Genji Heroes Skins which has info on a few more Genji skins for the character.

Now, these esports leagues are pretty much like the usual sports league that have certain teams for certain regions backed by some good investors. These teams compete during playoffs and seasons with teams from other countries to win a large prize pool. Though that’s not their only income, as players are usually hired for a certain annual income, and a share from the prize money. So you see it is a pretty good career choice, while this sounds like career guidance info, it ain’t.
Overwatch was released in 2016 but the esport for it wasn’t started until 2017 by Blizzard Entertainment, and the first season started around 2018. This season offered winners a prize of 3.5 million US dollars. Each season has 20 teams from various divisions compete against one another to qualify for the playoffs. Teams from the US, UK, China, South Korea, France, and Canada participate in OWL every season to test and win the prize pool. While there are many good teams in the OWL, let us see the top 3 teams.
Social Media Bandwagon
The Internet can either be the best thing or your worst nightmare and at this age, you cannot escape it. So if you want to promote your content, this can be the best choice for anyone. You will notice that as new games and movies are being released, people flood onto social media to share their opinions.
With a little good word of mouth, people are willing to try almost everything. This also helped the game to get many players to try this game, and even those who weren’t many gamers tried this game. The result was extremely in favor of the game.
There is another reason why many people(even non-gamers) like this game, which is controls. Anyone can try a game, but to stick to it requires you to know how to play it. In the case of Overwatch, the controls were pretty simple and the teammates were able to use different heroes with easy controls.
Promotional content can be of two types, good and bad. For Overwatch, the bad stuff too helped it a lot. Apart from stuff like fan arts and controversies, there was some NSFW stuff that also created a lot of buzz for the game. While that may not seem right, it still was a win for the studios.
As stated earlier, the heroes in Overwatch are the reason why many people still play this game. From those heroes let’s see one such character called Genji, and what makes him interesting. Also, another important feature that many people like about this game is that the developers add various skins for their characters, so here we will also provide you with all Genji skins.
Best Teams in OWL
Now there are many good teams from various countries in the OWL, but some are always better than the others. So for that reason, we have provided info on three such teams that deserved to be talked about.
San Francisco Shock
At the beginning of the OWL, they weren’t much of a deal, but that changed when they defeated the Vancouver Titans with a 4-0 and won their first championship. They didn’t just win the championship, but also the most MVP titles for two players. Jay ‘Sinatraa’ and ‘ChoiHyoBin’ were their two MVPs during the 2019 championship.
Then again, The San Francisco Shock did shock everyone in the 2020 tournament by winning their second OWL championship despite losing their MVP player Jay ‘Sintaraa’. Many people consider them to be the best team from the pacific west division in OWL. In the current 2021 season, they are a bit wavered, I guess. Since they are holding the 10th spot with 3 points, but they still have the chance to pick up.
Backed by Comcast Spectator, Philadelphia Fusion is a team that competes from the Atlantic South Division of the league. This team has been performing consistently in almost every season, while they had their ups and downs they have always stayed in the top 5 spots of every season. Even in the current 2021 season, they are currently sitting at the 5th spot with 4 points in 14-9-1.
Unlike the other two teams on the list here, Shanghai Dragons had a rough start, well saying roughly would be an understatement. That’s because the team holds the record for losing way too many matches as in their first season, their score was 0-40. Now, that may have been pretty difficult for both players and the sponsors.
You may now be wondering why this team is one of the best teams, then? That’s because they rose from their ashes to win the stage 3 playoff in the 2019 season. From there, the team even won the 2019 Shanghai Masters Esport event. When any team starts such a trajectory of growth, you can expect them to keep on growing, and to prove this we have the current season status. As the Shanghai Dragons are currently sitting at the top spot with 6 points in 12-8-1.
The 3 teams mentioned above aren’t in any order, but rather they are the top 3 teams that you should keep an eye on. For more info on these leagues, you can visit the OWL wiki page.
With a massive number of players and a large fan base, you can’t just miss out on playing this amazing game. Even if you did miss it till now, it’s time to start playing it. All you have to do is buy it and install it, then choose from a list of 32 unique characters that have various abilities.
If with time you get bored by watching the same character again and again, then for that reason the developers have provided quirky and diverse skins for every hero. If you like ninjas, then you should play with Genji, and unlock Genji skins.
